We've got your next winter wonderland adventure in Québec covered. Located roughly four hours north-east of Montréal, Charlevoix is the perfect destination for anyone seeking a return to Mother Nature. We stayed at an airbnb (view here) in Les Éboulements, about a 10-minute drive north-east of the local tourist town Baie-Saint-Paul, gracing us with panoramic views of the Fleuve Saint Laurent, Isle-aux-Coudres, and the surrounding lush forests.

Situated mere metres from our accommodation was direct access to a forest walking trail traversing a canyon and a flowing river nestled between pine-clad hills. If you intend to enjoy trail walks in winter we suggest hiking boots, crampons and/or snowshoes depending on the depth and compactness of snow. For our stay, crampons were sufficient.

In addition to life-affirming nature hikes, we enjoyed skiing at Le Massif and Mont Grand-Fonds. Le Massif is located in the heart of Charlevoix about 25 minutes from Baie-Saint-Paul, whereas Grand-Fonds is located about 50 minutes north east of the aforementioned town.
While both ski resorts were enjoyable and graced us with wondrous opportunities to experience the expansive wilderness and beauty of Charlevoix, if were to choose only one ski resort to visit it would definitely be Le Massif. The resort offers unparalleled views of the Fleuve Saint Laurent, giving the impression that you're skiing directly into the river. The park also boasts considerably more trails and longer distance runs as well.

If you are looking for a short and sweet getaway we recommend a minimum of three nights particularly if you are traveling from Montréal. We stayed for 5 nights and that was the perfect duration of time for us to enjoy several days of skiing, walking, playing board games and card games, soaking up the magic of outdoor spas, crazy carpet slides down a snow covered hill, cooking, good meals and outstanding company.
